…admonishes residents to resist being used by politicians.

By Samuel Igbavboa

The Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Mr. Chris Nehikhare has called for calm amidst renewed unrest in some parts of the State over the scarcity of the redesigned Naira notes, appealing that residents should not allow themselves to be used in achieving any selfish political goal.

Addressing newsmen in Benin City, Mr. Nehikhare noted that although the excruciating experiences being posed by the challenges of the scarcity of the redesigned Naira notes are worrisome, it should not degenerate to the point where both government and private properties in the State are being destroyed.

He praised the peaceful nature of Edo residents, and assured that the State Government is still collaborating with the Central Bank of Nigeria to ensure there would be enough money for everyone in the State from tomorrow.

The Commissioner called on the security agencies to maintain law and order in the State, and prevent the protest from being hijacked by hoodlums, adding that they should deal with offenders. He urged Edo people to save their anger for the election day, and reject bad leadership and enthrone the candidate of their choice who will fulfil their hopes and aspirations.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, reiterated the State Government’s commitment to Edo residence in ameliorating the hardship being faced by its residents. He added that Edo people should not accept anarchy, but should make use of their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to decide their choice candidates.
