NDDC Donates Relief Materials to Flood Victims in Edo 

Obaseki assured of the fair and equitable distribution of the relief materials to the targeted persons as soon as possible.

The Edo State Government has received relief items including foodstuff, insecticide-treated mosquito nets, mattresses, pillows, blankets, toiletries, amongst other items from the Presidency through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), on behalf of flood victims in the State.

At the presentation ceremony which took place in Benin City, Governor Godwin Obaseki, who was represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Engr. Jonathan Lawani, expressed appreciationto the Commission for the gesture towards ameliorating the conditions of flood victims in the State.

He sympathized with the flood victims whom he said had left their comfort zone arising from the devastating effects of flooding in the affected areas.

Obaseki assured of the fair and equitable distribution of the relief materials to the targeted persons as soon as possible.

The Director, NDDC, Edo State office, Mrs. Mercy Babawale, who represented the Ag. Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the NDDC, Dr. Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua, said she was aware of the flood incident that happened in October 2022, and also commended well-meaning Nigerians and organizations who had also provided relief and succor to the flood victims.

She added that the Minister of Niger Delta  Affairs, Obong Umanah Okon Umanah, had promised a comprehensive provision on behalf of the Federal Government to ameliorate the hardship experienced by flood victims in the State.

Mrs. Babawale noted that the NDDC as an interventionist agency, resolved to compliment the effort of the Edo State Government though it was delayed due to logistics challenges.

She revealed that there were 18 different items in two categories of food and non-food components; amounting to 9,426 units.
 She urged that the items be distributed to the target beneficiaries at the earliest opportunity to forestall decay of the perishable items.
