The Edo State Government has reassured that there are no plans to dispossess individuals and communities of their land.

The assurance was given by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, after the weekly State Executive Council Meeting held on Wednesday in Government House, Benin City.

Nehikhare also applauded residents for their conduct and sustained support for the State Government in putting an end to buildings that do not comply with the Government’s master plan.

The Commissioner said: “Please be informed that the Edo State Government has no plan of dispossessing individuals and communities alike of their land, but to ensure that land sellers seek Government’s approval before embarking on selling land to prospective buyers.”

He explained that the Government has designed layouts for every land and therefore, buyers are advised to make necessary inquiries from relevant government agencies before buying any land to avoid issues.”

Nehikhare however told journalists that “The attention of the government has been drawn to some individuals who are still head bent on developing the illegally possessed land despite several warnings from the government, with  the wrong mindset that the government will overlook such actions.

“Kindly note that such people are advised to stop forthwith as such actions will amount to disobedience to government directives.”

He emphasized that “The State Government will continue to protect the interest of its residents as it concerns land buying and development across the State.”
