The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has commended the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) for donating medical equipment to the Benin Specialist Hospital.
The SOEF also donated educational materials to different schools in Edo State.
The governor gave the commendation at the SEOF Centre, in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Governor Obaseki, who was represented by the his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Hon. Yakubu Gowon, urged other Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to emulate the gesture of the foundation to complement government’s role in driving societal development.
The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba described Sir Emeka Offor as a rare gem, who should be emulated by other Nigerians, adding that his contribution to the educational sector in Nigeria is unquantifiable.
Other dignitaries at the event include Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State; former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, and Senator representing Anambra South, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, among others.
The foundation distributed over 1,460,000 educational materials covering a wide range of disciplines to primary, secondary and tertiary institutions nationwide.
In Edo State, schools that benefitted from the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) National Books/ Educational Materials and Medical Equipment Distribution Programme include: the University of Benin; St. Maria Gorroti; Annunciation Secondary School; Our Lady of Fatima College; Edo College, Ikhin Secondary School; Emotan Primary School; Olua Primary School; Eguare Primary School; Ibigun Primary School; Azama Primary School and the Benin Specialist Hospital.
The educational materials distributed by the foundation is aimed at stimulating reading culture and promoting educational development in support of government’s intervention in the educational sector.
