Obaseki assures improved partnership with Nigerian Postal Institute for manpower devt

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has said his administration will sustain partnership with the Nigerian Postal Institute (NPI) especially in the area of human capital development to improve mail delivery and postal services in the state.

Obaseki gave the assurance when he received a delegation of the Nigerian Postal Institute, led by the Edo State Director, Dr. Julius Anjorin, on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin City.

The governor, who was impressed by the director’s presentation on partnering with the state government on a commemorative stamp for Edo as well as other areas of partnership, noted: “What you have done here today excites my curiosity to come and visit and see for myself and that we will do.

“If we have these developments or these assets in Edo and it’s available for use, I believe that the collaboration between the state government and your office will be worthwhile.

“I am sure that we will be needing some of these facilities from time to time as we host events. I will come and visit in the next few weeks to see them for myself.

“I will also look at all the areas of collaboration you spoke about, particularly in the area of training manpower as it relates to mail delivery, postal services and the postal routes.

“With technology, a lot of things we used to do manually are now being automated including mails and delivery of mails. However, you cannot wish away the fact that human beings must always write and communicate physically through physical writing,” he said.

Earlier in his presentation, the director noted: “We are ready to collaborate with the state government to ensure that the commemorative stamp is launched in 2021 with your approval.

“We also want to embark on a postal museum which we are going to collaborate with the state. We have logistics services; our bulk mail services are there; we have what is called the national mail root services.”

He continued: “I wish to tell you that we are involved in all manners of training, human resource development and the one that may interest you sir, is the one we call mail handlers training.

“That involves training all organisations where mails are handled, training those who handle their mails. We have other services that we render in the training school; we conduct research and collaborate with other organisations to train their staff.”

“We also embarked on consultancies services. In addition, we have two football fields that can be used as training centre for clubs, we also have hostel facilities that can be used for camping of athletes and for other occasions,” he said.
