The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said his administration will sustain policies and programmes to guarantee the growth and development of the state, ensuring better livelihoods for Edo citizens.

Obaseki gave the assurance when he received the executive members of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), led by its Chairman, Dr. Ibrahim Ado, who were on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin City.

The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Osaigbovo Iyoha, stated that the numerous ongoing projects and reforms across all sectors of the state are aimed at improving the living standard of the people and ensuring sustainable development.

Obaseki said, “Growing up in Benin City, the veterinary clinic was a place to visit to see veterinary doctors treat animals. It was joy seeing this, but the system is not the same anymore. We thank God for an association like yours, which is on the ground to change the narrative.

“The Government surely will assist associations like yours to make sure things work again. Veterinary services are needed; it is a means for generating income for Edo State, as we work to increase our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).”

He added, “We have embarked on a lot of reforms in the state. These reforms will be extended to our abattoirs, ensuring that the meat available in the state is disease-free and hygienic for consumption.”

On his part, the chairman of NVMA, Dr. Ibrahim said they were in the state for the association’s 57th Annual National Convention, scheduled to hold between Monday 25th and Friday 29th of October 2021.

Ibrahim, who hailed the governor’s transformational projects across all sectors of the state, urged the government to support the upgrade of veterinary clinics across the 18 local government areas of the state to ensure the effectiveness of the clinics in checking outbreaks of diseases, especially those from animals.
