Governor Godwin Obaseki, on Thursday, commended Paragon Demonstration School for recording a victory on the opening day of the ongoing Channels International Kids Cup, noting that the school had made the state proud.
A statement from the Office of the Chief Press Secretary disclosed that Governor Obaseki was particularly elated when news filtered into town that in one of the Group A matches, Paragon Demonstration School from Edo State got the better of X-Planter Primary School from Ikorodu in Lagos by a goal to nothing, courtesy a strike by Orobosa Aghahowa.
The statement also revealed that the governor was paying keen attention to the football tournament to discover talents that would facilitate his plans to revamp sports in the state by developing young talents.
He said: “Governor Obaseki was delighted to find that a school from Edo State came out tops in the opening day contest against a school from another state. To both the governor and the entire state, it is a further indication that we have talents already in the state that we can groom. You can be sure that the state is paying attention to developments in the tournament”.
It would be recalled that group stage action commenced with Community Primary School, Lagos, Paragon Demonstration School, Edo, Mowoe Primary School, Delta and Jaafaru Primary School from Kaduna recording opening day victories.
