… says education reforms intended to check brain drain

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has reassured that his administration will restructure the State’s School of Health Technology as part of commitment to making Edo State the hub for quality education.

Obaseki gave the reassurance during a courtesy visit by the executives of the School of Health Technology Students’ Union Government, at the Government House, in Benin City.

The governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, said, “Edo State Government is giving priority to education in all ramifications. The School of Health Technology will not be left out as the government has made a decision to prioritise the rehabilitation of the School of Health Technology with immediate effect.

“As a government, our policies revolve around education which does not only cover basic and secondary education alone but also tertiary. This is intentional to eliminate the brain drain currently plaguing Nigeria as a nation and in doing this, we are adopting a holistic approach to making things right and to restore the lost glory of Edo State.”

In his address, the President of the Students’ Union Government, Comrade Igieneh Aloysius, appealed to the state government to help save the School of Health Technology from its dilapidated state.

He added that the School of Health Technology has lost its accreditation due to lack of infrastructure in the institution.

He listed other challenges faced by the institution that needs government urgent interventions to include lack of infrastructure, loss of accreditation of some programmes amongst others challenges.
