Obaseki tasks RATTAWU on quality reportage

Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has enjoined journalists in the state to be professional in information management, adding that it is more rewarding to be objective while disseminating information about the government’s activities across to the public.

Governor Obaseki made this known in Benin City when he received the executive members of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), who were at the Edo State Government House in Benin on a courtesy visit.

The governor commended the union for creating awareness and building confidence in his administration’s quest to reduce the level of poverty in the state in job creation, and infrastructural and human capacity development.

He added that the steps his administration had taken were deliberate to ensure it consolidated on the achievements of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, especially on massive road rehabilitation across the state.

While assuring the members of the union of his administration’s determination to make Edo State an economic hub, he promised to provide befitting accommodation for members who are in dire need of space to carry out their professional activities.

He revealed that all issues of entitlements, ranging from promotion to weigh-in allowance owed to its members would be addressed at the most appropriate time.

Meanwhile, he noted that the operation bus, which his predecessor had pledged to the union, would be provided as soon as government was able to address the issue of funds.

Speaking, the Chairman of RATTAWU, Comrade Emeka Igbenoba of the Edo State Chapter, while commending the governor on his giant strides to move the state forward, said the union was determined to create a working relationship with the state government in areas of information management.

In addition, he appealed to the state government to review and assist Edo Broadcasting Service in upgrading its facilities so that it could have wider coverage and compete with international practices.

The Chairman expressed joy with some of the state government’s projects, including micro business scheme, youth empowerment, and the Lady Mechanic initiative.
