Obaseki to engage Edo Poly on state’s urban, regional planning initiatives

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has disclosed plans to engage the Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, in developing needed manpower to drive the state’s urban and regional planning initiatives.

The governor, who said this in a statement, noted that the initiative would leverage the facilities and resources in the polytechnic’s Centre for Geospatial and Information Science (CGIS) and the School of Environment Studies, among other resources to drive the initiatives.

According to him, “We are pleased with the performance of the Edo State Polytechnic, Usen and will be putting more resources to train badly needed manpower to support and sustain our initiatives, particularly in our Urban and Regional Planning initiatives.”

Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Abiodun Falodun, said the institution is ready and capable of providing bespoke servicing for the development of the state, as it forms part of its core mandate on community impact.

According to him, “We are delighted to be considered in the government’s plan on urban and regional planning. We will continue to improve on our facilities to respond to the needs of the community, in line with Governor Godwin Obaseki’s ambition to make the polytechnic a world-class institution of higher learning.”

The CGIS, situated at the polytechnic, is a research and teaching unit that utilizes computer software and tools such as geographic information systems among others, to gather information for use in mining, agriculture, urban planning and health care.
