In the proposed budget, the Governor intends to spend N30,280,132,502 (9% of the total budget) on the health sector to sustain the ongoing momentum in the sector.
According to Obaseki, the Healthcare system in the State is witnessing a total overhaul, with radical changes that are ensuring that the people are better served by health care providers.
He maintained that the health sector reforms are being implemented to guarantee a vibrant, reliable, affordable and accessible system.
He emphasized that despite the economic downtowns in the outgoing year, his administration was able to make appreciable achievements in the health sector such as the revamp of over fifty (50) Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) that are fitted with technology and powered with solar energy.
Leveraging strategic partnerships with the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA), the Edo State Government in the outgoing year, organized one of the largest medical outreaches in the State, providing Edo people with essential medical interventions that reached over 5,000 persons, with quality healthcare.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to sustain the medical outreach, Obaseki said: “We have ensured a sustainability pathway by deploying the telemedicine facilities in the PHCs to enable ANPA members in the Diaspora to continue to provide consultancy to our people.”
According to the Governor, “The Edo State Health Insurance Scheme has continued to enroll more persons across various sectors of the economy so as to shore up the number of persons making out-of-pocket payments for healthcare services.
“We have made room for enrollees from the informal sector so as to have a robust scheme that can cater for the needs of the citizenry.”
This is geared towards making essential healthcare available, affordable and readily accessible.
The N30,280,132,502 health sector budget is broken into N17,844,732,502 for capital expenditure and N12,435,400,000 for recurrent expenditure, and translates to nine (9) percent of the N320.4 billion total budget.
