The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, his deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, wife of the Governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki and other prominent Edo sons and daughters on Sunday graced the 60th birthday and retirement ceremony of the former Auditor General of the Federation, Dr. Chief Aghughu Adolphus in Benin City.
Obaseki who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Budget, Economic Planning, and Development Bernard Aigbe, described Dr. Aghughu as a worthy Edo son and expressed his delight at the contributions of the former AGF to the nation’s development.
The Governor noted that the former Auditor General of the Federation was the first Edo citizen to occupy the exalted office and praised his high sense of patriotism and commitment to work, more for bringing glory to the State.
The Deputy Governor in his congratulatory message which was also delivered by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Budget, Economic Planning, and Development Mr Bernard Aigbe, said Edo State was proud of the achievements of the former AGF.
Similarly, the First Lady of the State, Mrs Betsy Obaseki congratulated Dr. Aghughu on his retirement after working for the country for thirty years, with a clean record in service.
Dr(chief) Aghughu Adolphus who hails from Idima ewatto, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State, joined the public service of the federation as auditor 1.
Speaking in his capacity as Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Ministry of Finance, Budget, Economic Planning and Development, Mr Aigbe, said the Obaseki-led administration was committed to revamping critical institutions of government to better serve Edo people.
Aigbe said: “We will continue to commend the Edo State Governor for ensuring that institutions are built and one of these institutions is the audit institution, in order to deliver quality services to the citizens which has led to the transparency and accountability in the governance of Edo State.”
He clarified that it’s on record that in 2020 the audited financial statements of Edo state was one of the best adjudged by the World Bank as one of the best in compliance with international public sector accounting standard.
“This is because the Governor has always ensured that the right thing is done always,” he said, and assured that the current government has kickstarted development plans that will ensure that the Making Edo Great Again is achieved.
