Ovia South West APC passes vote of confidence on Obaseki, Idahosa

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State has passed a vote of confidence on the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and the member representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, as leaders of the APC in the state and LGA respectively.

The leaders of the APC passed the vote of confidence at the Local Council Secretariat in Iguobazuwa, headquarters of the Ovia South West LGA.

In attendance at the meeting were leaders of the APC, councillors, party executives, appointees, board members and other critical stakeholders in Ovia South West LGA.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher and Technical Education, Hon. Omorodion Ikponmwonsa, said the decision to hold the meeting is to enable the council “clear the air about some party executives in Ovia South West LGA that are holding meetings with the proscribed Edo Peoples Movement (EPM).

He said the meeting was also convened to “call the leaders who are the owners of the party to know that if they are still members of the party or identify themselves properly as members of the proscribed EPM. It is funny to see people that are claiming to be members of the APC holding meetings with EPM stalwarts.”

Ikponmwonsa said the party leaders also reaffirmed their position regarding Governor Godwin Obaseki’s leadership role in the party, noting, “Because other LGAs are taking their positions, we, in Ovia South West LGA, deem it necessary to also take a position as to where we stand and to also reaffirm our confidence in Hon. Dennis Idahosa as the authentic leader of this party in Ovia South West LGA.”

Hon. Dennis Idahosa said, “We have all agreed to work for Governor Godwin Obaseki, so why will some people try to shy away from what we have agreed on.

He urged leaders of the APC to be united in forming a formidable force against the opposition.

Idahosa said Governor Obaseki deserves reelection considering the strides recorded with the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (Edo-BEST), programme which has helped in transforming the basic education sector in the state.

He added, “Our children now learn with modern technology. On the issue of transforming the College of Agriculture, which is presently on course, the Governor has performed very well. He deserves a second term in office.”

The motion to reaffirm a vote of confidence on the governor and Hon. Idahosa as the council’s authentic leaders was moved by Mr. Osadolor Odumamwen.

Addressing journalists, the Chairman Ovia South-West LGA, Hon. Destiny Enabulele said, “We have come to reaffirm our unalloyed loyalty to Governor Godwin Obaseki because his ongoing programmes and policies ongoing in the state are second to none.”

Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Benjamin Iyase, said the meeting was called to show that leaders of the APC in Ovia South West were solidly behind the governor.

On his part, Managing Director, Edo Geographic Information System, Mr. Frank Ebhomwan, said, “We are here to show the world that Ovia South West is one and there is no division whatsoever.”
