Following Governor Goodwin Obaseki’s MEGA Agenda on institutional reforms, the Executive Secretary, of Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen has emphasised the State Government’s plans to have functional Primary Healthcare Centres (PHC) across the 18 Local Government Areas that would be adequately staffed with good infrastructure and equipment, as well as stocked with essential medicines for the well-being of Edo residents.
According to the Executive Secretary who made the announcement while speaking with journalists on Primary Healthcare Reforms in Edo State, the Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) is using a multifaceted approach to implement the Primary Health Care Reforms, which are centred around Infrastructural Development, Human Resources, Essential Drugs, Community Participation, and Governance and Leadership approach.
Dr. Izedonmwen further emphasised that the first phase of work for refurbishing the PHCs is set to commence with 12 PHCs in Benin City and followed thereafter by 55 PHCs across LGAs.
He added that the present administration has put modalities in place to ensure it delivers precisely, one hundred and ninety-two (192) functional and well-equipped Primary Healthcare Centres in each ward to meet the health needs of Edo residents.
Also speaking on the deficiencies recorded in time past, Dr. Izedonmwen stated that lack of manpower was identified as a major challenge plaguing the PHCs across the State; hence the recent recruitment process for Primary Healthcare professionals.
The Executive Secretary, thereafter assured that the Primary Healthcare reforms would result in a significant improvement in the quality of primary healthcare services that would be delivered to Edo people.
