Residents, road users laud Obaseki on road construction

Residents and road users commuting within Benin City, the Edo State Capital, have praised the state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki for rehabilitating and reconstructing many major roads within the city and making commuting much easier.

This was as motorists plying the popular Ikpokpan Road, which is Off Sapele Road, commended the governor’s efforts to repair the road.

It would be recalled that Governor Obaseki had promised to construct and rehabilitate over 3000km of roads within the state, while he also agreed to collaborate with AG Dangote to apply concrete technology to the construction of roads within the state.

Smith Enabulele, a motorist said that Governor Obaseki was matching words with action as the state government seemed to be working with the best contractors and the presence of men and heavy-duty equipment at various locations spoke volumes for the governor’s commitment to infrastructure development.

Another road user, Idemudia Omoruyi, who claimed to be a regular user of the road said: “I take this road every day and I know that this road faced massive erosion before. Now, the concrete they are using to construct the road is giving us hope. I pray it reduces erosion here”.

Meanwhile, other roads currently undergoing massive rehabilitation include Ugbor road, which was sometimes called “River Morocco” on account of the flooding that occurred there whenever it rained.

A shop owner simply identified as Idahor explained that the flooding often made business difficult for her, but with the reconstruction that was going on, there would be more customers, regardless of whether it rained or not.

For his part, a resident at the area, Iyobosa Aigbe revealed that many residents and road users, who erstwhile used alternative routes, were anxiously awaiting the completion of the project, adding that Governor Obaseki’s performance within 5months was commendable, as the ongoing rehabilitation had completely allayed their fears as they approached the period of heavy rains.

Other roads under construction include Oko central, extending to Gauis Idubor, Irowa Street, Erediauwa Road, Off Ekehuan road, Idele Avenue, Iluoba street, Off Aerodrome  Close, and the well-known  Nevis  street,  criss-crossing Lagos street with other notoriously eroded roads earmarked for rehabilitation.
