  5. THE WELFARE OF EDO PEOPLE REMAINS DEEP IN THE HEART OF THE GOVERNOR – Hon…

The Edo State Commissioner for Local Government, Community & Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Monday Osaigbovo JP, has reiterated Government’s commitment to the welfare of Edo People, asserting that their welfare is deep in the heart of the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki.

Hon Monday Osaigbovo made this assertion while playing host to the Leadership Impact Africa Magazine team, who conferred a certificate and an award of The Most Outstanding Administrator and Cultural Administrative Icon in Edo State on the Commissioner in his office in Benin City, in recognition of his leadership qualities, administrative acumen and strides in delivering the developmental policy programmes of the Governor Obaseki-led administration that has enhanced the social economic development of the State.

The Commissioner, while appreciating the Team, attributed his success to the work force in the Ministry, noting that the award was not just for him, but for the staff of the Ministry who have remained a backbone in piloting its activities.

He said, “First, let me thank you for this award as it was not expected, and I don’t think the award is only for me, but also for the Ministry who are helping me to pilot the activities of the Ministry in terms of Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs.”

He reiterated that the welfare of Edo people is paramount to the State Government, hence the continuous pursuance of people-oriented policies, programmes and reforms across all sectors in the State.

Highlighting some achievements of the Governor, Hon. Monday Osaigbovo said that accolades were already coming in as the State is not owing Pensions, as Local Government Pensioners are being paid their wages as and at when due, owing to the fact that the State no longer need to keep the senior citizens waiting, but rather pay from the State’s purse, and when the Federal allocation comes to Local Government, the State Government is reimbursed.

On Traditional administration, the Commissioner pointed that Section 45 of the Traditional Rulers Law in Edo State states that there shall be a Traditional Council in each of the Local Government Areas in the State, hence the approval and implementation of the 1979 law by Governor Obaseki.

On her part, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs. Felicia Edokpolor, noted that the Edo-Gov is another milestone of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration, as the State work force have since 1st September, 2023 commenced full implementation of a paperless Government, as physical files are no longer treated, and workers now work and transfer documents across MDAs through the Edo-Gov portal, with their laptops connected to the Edo State network.

She added that the impact of the present administration has changed the narrative of governance through various sector reforms in the State and Local Government Areas, ranging from infrastructure, Health, Education, amongst others.

Earlier, the Managing Editor of the Leadership Impact Africa Magazine, Comrade Joseph Odion, who presented the award, commended the Commissioner for his commitment to democracy and good governance, which he said has contributed immensely to the successes recorded by Governor Obaseki, mostly in the areas of Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Issues, Boundary Disputes, among others.

He further commended the Governor for his announcement of the monthly allowances for the Traditional Rulers’ Council in the State, as this is one of the milestone achievements of the State Governor.

Comrade Odion noted that as a Media outlet, they do not blackmail, but criticize constructively to promote good governance, while assuring of their readiness to partner with the Ministry to ensure Governor Obaseki finishes strong.
