The World Health Organization (WHO) designates December 12th as the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day each year.
The day is marked with a series of events and a call on world leaders and other stakeholders to accelerate investments towards health for all to achieve a world in which everyone can access health without experiencing hardship.
The Edo State Government has, through the establishment of the Edo State Health Insurance Commission, made substantial efforts towards achieving affordable healthcare for its residents.

A breakdown of the various health plans, including the health benefits and corresponding annual costs, were provided during the sensitization.
The plans include the Equity Students, Formal, Informal, Platinum Healthcare Plans, which render preventive, consulting, general practice, outpatient admissions, maternal, neonatal, reproductive health, minor surgical procedures, laboratory, radiological, physiotherapy, pharmacies, emergencies, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, primary eye and dental care, amongst other healthcare services.
The road show which went through major markets in Benin City, Ekpoma and Auchi commenced from Mission Road and proceeded to Oba Market, Lagos Street and environs in Benin City.
In Edo Central Senatorial District, the road show went through Esan West Local Government Council Secretariat, Ekpoma, to Ali Square and Market Square, while in Edo North, it went through Etsako West Local Government Council Secretariat Auchi to Opoji Junction and Ibo Market.
