The Edo State government has urged oil companies and their host communities to embrace dialogue in resolving issues among them.
The Commissioner for Mining, Oil and Gas, Hon. Ethan Uzamere made this known in a meeting with Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) and 52 communities hosting the company in the state.
“After listening to several claims by the community representatives on the continued negligence caused by NPDC’s decision regarding the definition of host communities, the Ministry will create more awareness on the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and monitor Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects executed by oil companies.”
Uzamere told the communities to be unified in their decision making and exercise patience with NPDC to reach an agreement in line with the provisions of the PIA.
