Edo State Govt Commences Training, Evaluation of Workforce for 2022/23 Promotion

By Maureen Nwine

In line with its vision of making Edo the best state to live and prosper in by the year 2050, Edo State Government through the Office of the Head of Service has commenced training and evaluation for officers in the Civil/Public Service who are due for the 2022 and January 1st, 2023 promotion.

Addressing the Officers who fall between Salary Grade Levels 07 and 16 during the two-day training programme which was held at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) within the week, the Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq., reiterated that Edo State Civil/Public Service is now known for excellence and capability. In his words, “I am excited about this, and it is our hopes and expectation that we will continue to do this. We don’t want a situation where you are due for promotion, and you do not get it. It is now a matter of importance, and going forward, Edo State Civil/Public Officers will not have to suffer stagnancy in their career growth.”

Expressing confidence that the Officers have the capacity to deliver excellently on their assigned schedules, the Head of Service disclosed that the Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, is amazed with how fast and far the service has moved in such a short period of time. Okungbowa Esq further applauded the officers for their fast adaptation to the e-governance policy and the seamlessness with which they are operating with it, while maintaining that Edo State remains the model against which other states measure their e-governance and Procurement compliance.

Wishing the Officers well, the Head of Service reiterated that it has been the policy in Edo State to train Officers to build their capacity as well as evaluate them before they are promoted to the next higher level. He urged everyone to put in their best, expressing confidence that the officers have the capacity to excel. He assured the participants that the facilitators for the various modules are well seasoned and trusted to do justice to the presentations. He further urged them all to take maximum advantage of the training so as to get the most out of it, as it is not solely for the purpose of evaluation.

The Modules x-rayed during the training session include Implementing Edo S.T.E.P; E-Government: the role of the Civil/Public Service; Application of Civil Service Rules/EDSG Code of Ethics. Others are EDSG Aspirations and priorities: M.E.G.A Agenda; Expenditure, Expenditure Control and Payment; Computer and Digital Literacy as well as Overview of Edo State Public Procurement Law.

Having concluded with the training, the computer-based evaluation that will see officers in the State Civil/Public Service, between salary grade levels 07 and 16 promoted to their next higher level, is scheduled for Saturday, October 14th 2023 between the hours of 8am and 4pm.
