Edo State Ministry of Agric and Food Security Onboards New Officers

The Edo State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has onboarded 66 newly recruited officers as part of efforts to strengthen the Agricultural Sector and enhance service delivery.

Speaking during the onboarding exercise, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Jerry Uwangue, represented by the functioning Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Bamaiyi Osedebamen Rebecca, described agriculture as a critical pillar in the socio-economic development of the State, with vast potentials for job creation, food security, and wealth generation.

The Commissioner congratulated the officers on their appointments, noting that the exercise was designed to acquaint them with the structure, mandate, and operations of the Ministry, while also instilling in them the core values, ethics, and expectations of Public Service.

Dr. Uwangue emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to repositioning the Agricultural Sector through strategic policies, innovative programmes, and strong partnerships with stakeholders. In his words, “We are focused on making agriculture more productive, commercially viable, and attractive, especially to young people and women.”

The Commissioner urged the officers to uphold professionalism, discipline, and integrity, while demonstrating dedication to duty, willingness to learn, and commitment to excellence. He stated that the success of the Ministry’s programmes depends largely on their attitude to work and ability to collaborate effectively. He assured the new recruits of the Ministry’s continued support and commitment to providing an enabling environment for optimal performance.

The Resource Person and Permanent Secretary of Human Resources, Office of the Head of Service, Mrs. Bose Igbinobaro, stressed the importance of adherence to the Civil Service ethics, the code of conduct, protocol, social etiquette, punctuality, and appropriate dress code.

Earlier, the Director of Administration, Mrs. Franca Odiai, congratulated the officers and encouraged them to maintain good conduct and diligence in their respective roles.

Directors from various departments, alongside the ADP Project Manager, briefed the new officers on their roles and responsibilities, professional conduct, and disciplinary procedures. The session also featured an interactive segment where participants sought clarification on key issues.

Responding on behalf of the newly recruited officers, Mr. Onaifo Osagie Wisdom, expressed appreciation to the Edo State Government for the opportunity to serve.

The onboarding exercise concluded with tributes to the Commissioner, the functioning Permanent Secretary, the ADP Project Manager, and departmental directors for their guidance and knowledge shared during the session.
