They pledged to take the valuable experiences back to their respective organizations for further deliberations and necessary actions.

In a bid to foster collaboration and promote competence-based approaches to Office Administration in the workplace, Edo State Government’s Job Creation Agency Edojobs recently organized a two-day Office Administrator Workplace Training and a Monitoring and Coordination Workshop for the Lagos State Technical and Vocational
Education Board (LASTVEB), employers of labour in Edo State. The event, which took place at the esteemed John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA), Benin City, aimed to create synergy among employers of labor and familiarize them with Competence-Based Approaches (CBA) in Office Administration.

During the workshop, stakeholders gained valuable insights into the methods for training competent office administrators in alignment with the National Occupation Standard (NOS) of Nigeria guidelines. Emphasizing the significance and benefits of competence-based approaches, Mrs. Violet Obiokoro, the Managing Director of Edojobs, underscored how such practices enhance workforce productivity, employability, economic growth, service delivery, and professional development.

The training placed a strong focus on quality service delivery and bridging the gap between knowledge and skills through the training center and in-company exposure, ensuring the participants prove their competency in Office Administration in line with the delivery module and designed curriculum of NOS in Nigeria.

In support of the initiative, GIZ’s Skills Development for Youth Employment-SKYE program implemented a Competency-Based Training (CBT) approach to deliver Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The program aims to promote need-based TVET and youth employment in Nigeria, with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) serving as the regulatory body and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) as the awarding body. Edojobs will be at the forefront of conducting the Competence-Based Training (CBT) in Edo State.

The workshop, saw active participation from key stakeholders, including the Director of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Taiwo Lolas-Alausa; Mr. Stephen Balogun from NABTEB, Benin City; Director of Partnership LASTVEB, Mr. Olawale Oluwo; and Mr. Johan-Peter Porten, Team Lead, SEQUA. Notable representatives from private sector players such as Benin Medical Care, Wellspring University, Genius Hub, Treskaro Systems and Solutions, Momas Metering School, Lagos, and Dangote Industry were also in attendance.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants, representing both the public and private sectors from within and outside Edo State, lauded the program, expressing their appreciation for the method of training competent office administrators in accordance with the National Occupation Standard of Nigeria. They pledged to take the valuable experiences back to their respective organizations for further deliberations and necessary actions.

This collaborative effort aligns with Governor Obaseki’s vision, which highlights his unwavering commitment to human capital development, collaboration, and partnerships, as well as the promotion of technical and vocational education. Such initiatives will undoubtedly contribute to nurturing a skilled workforce and fostering sustainable economic growth in the state.
