The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated the Nigerian-born renowned writer, Dr. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on the conferment of the title of Odeluwa of Abba (World Writer of Abba) on her by the king of Abba dukedom, His Royal Highness, Igwe Sir Leonard Nwankwo Ezeh, JP, during his 45th coronation anniversary and 80th birthday celebration.
Speaking at the event that held at the king’s palace, Abba, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday, December 30, 2022, Obaseki commended her excellence, resilience and drive in promoting development in the country and changing the narrative and perception of the world about the Nigerian citizens.
He said: “I think for me it’s an acknowledgment from home that has produced us a daughter who has accomplished so much globally. And the saying, “you can be great outside of the home. Until your folks acknowledge your greatness, it will not be complete.
“I think she is one of the thought leaders who are helping redefine and eliminate the challenges of the current day generation.
“She is a product of a Nigeria that worked; a Nigeria where excellence was the key determinant to success; her both parents professors in the university, and see how she has used the background, the foundation laid in this country, and gone outside to the world with it, and captivated the world with her knowledge and her endowments.”
The Governor, who described Chimamanda as one whose character and drive are worthy of emulation, encouraged young Nigerians to follow in her footsteps.
“So, I think for me, it’s an inspiration to young people in Nigeria, that they should not lose hope on Nigeria. Nigeria once worked. Nigeria will work again, and Nigeria has massive resources. Our major resource is our people; our people like Chimanda”, Obaseki assured.
