Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has inspected the ongoing construction of the 7.2km Temboga-Ekiuwa Road, which links the University of Benin (UNIBEN). This was made known in a press statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, and dated November 26, 2024.
The project which was flagged off on November 13, just 24 hours after Governor Okpebholo assumed office, includes stormwater channelization through Ekiuwa Road, connecting Uteh and other communities before terminating at UNIBEN in Ugbowo, Egor Local Government Area.
According to the statement, the Governor reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling campaign promises, emphasizing the road’s importance as a bypass to Ugbowo. “This road was unpassable in time past as it has been bad for years. Residents living here have suffered for years without government presence. The people in this area found it difficult to move, but the situation will now change as the road will help them link up with the UNIBEN,” he said.
Governor Okpebholo highlighted the state’s efforts toward infrastructure development, stating, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has enthroned the renewed hope agenda for Nigeria, and this is the step my administration is taking to develop Edo State and ensure that Edo is renewed. With these massive projects going on now, we can see that we are ready to transform the State as we have embarked on massive road infrastructure to transform Edo State.”
During the visit, he also inspected remediation works at Upper Mission Extension Road near Aduwawa Junction. Residents and traders expressed their appreciation for the administration’s swift action, lauding the Governor for delivering the dividends of democracy.
A cross-section of residents, including Mrs. Blessing Thomas, Vero Itua, Miracle Olujobi, and Peter Afekena, praised the Governor’s prompt attention to the area’s longstanding challenges. They remarked that within days of taking office, the Governor had brought “new light” to the community, demonstrating a leadership focused on the people’s welfare.
“The time we came here to campaign, I saw the situation of the road and I told them that we were coming back, and today we are back to see the level of work done so far,” Okpebholo noted, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to ensuring progress across Edo State.
