Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has described Rt. Hon Jim Adun, a former member representing Ikpoba-Okha/Egor Federal Constituency at the National Assembly as an accomplished Nigerian who has made enormous contributions to the nation, describing him as a phenomenal individual and a unifying force for the state and country at large.
Obaseki made the remarks on Saturday July 27, 2024, at the birthday reception held in his honor in Benin City, wherein he urged citizens of the state to prioritize unity, as minor issues should not be allowed to overshadow their identity.
According to Obaseki, “Today we are celebrating a special person. One thing we do not do as Edo people is that we do not celebrate ourselves enough; we allow minor issues to dominate who we are, and you can only start celebrating Edo when you start celebrating Edo people who are accomplished. Brother Jim is one of those people in my view who have made indelible accomplishments across generations.
“He is a phenomenon you can describe as a social glue, who has helped us as a people to come together, and you can see that from the attendance. Whether in his early life in Western Boys or his professional accomplishment in the Nigerian Airforce, business, church participation, and career in politics as a Member representing Ikpoba-Okha/Egor constituency; in all of these roles, he has stood out as somebody who brings people together.
“I am using my privilege and advantage as the Governor to say, Brother Jim you have done well. We appreciate and congratulate you, and we want to let you know that God has truly blessed you.”
The Governor added: “On behalf of the people and the Government of Edo State, we are here to let you know that we cherish you, we appreciate you and we respect you. thank you for who you have been, for your consideration, kindness, service to the nation and your contributions to communities. May God continue to preserve you in good health for many years to come. Congratulations.”
A special thanksgiving mass had earlier been held at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, Sakponba Road, Benin, as prayers were offered to God on behalf of the celebrant, family, friends and well-wishers, with the Governor also in attendance.
